Easy Teardrop Swag
Want to make a stunning teardrop swag without using glue? This easy DIY teardrop swag tutorial will show you how to create a gorgeous greenery-filled design that works for any season!
Equipment
- Wire cutters (to trim stems)
- Scissors (for cutting and dovetailing ribbon tails)
Materials
- 24" teardrop swag I get mine from DecoExchange
- Everyday greenery Silver dollar flat leaf greenery is a great choice
- Floral stems Cream and white florals work great for an everyday look
- Zip ties for securing greenery and ribbon
- Ribbon 4-inch wired ribbon and two 1.5-inch ribbons for layering
Instructions
Fluffing Your Teardrop Swag Base
- Separate the greenery, bend the branches outward, and make sure all the ties are exposed.
Adding Greenery Layers
- Start by layering in the greenery at the top and bottom of the swag.
- Trim any excess stem length and insert them into the swag base.
- Secure them with zip ties, making sure they are snug against the frame.
- Keep some stems standing up for added dimension.
Adding Floral Stems
- Now that your greenery is set, it’s time to add florals for texture and color.
- Select two floral stems and fluff them out.
- Layer them into the greenery, positioning them in a way that makes the swag look natural and balanced.
- Secure them with zip ties.
Making the Bow
- Use 4-inch wired ribbon as the base for extra impact.
- Layer two 1.5-inch wired ribbons with complementary colors and patterns.
- Create three loops of each ribbon (or more if you want a fuller look).
- Secure the bow with a zip tie and leave long tails for movement.
- Attach bow near the center or slightly off to one side.
Attaching and Finishing Touches
- Trim your ribbon tails and dovetail the ends for a polished look.
- Curve some of the wired ribbon tails to create movement.
- Adjust the greenery and florals around the bow to blend everything together.
- Pull some greenery up through the loops of the bow for a seamless finish.
