Customization Ideas:
- Change the Colors: While we used a brick-red poly burlap for this tutorial, you can experiment with other colors like yellow, pink, turquoise, or even mix colors to create a rainbow effect.
- Switch Up the Centers: If you can’t find a pre-made flower center, a 10-inch metal sign or a glittery Styrofoam ball will work just as well.
- Seasonal Variations: Try using different color schemes to create a sunflower wreath for different seasons—yellow for summer, orange and brown for fall, or white for a winter-themed flower.

UITC Board Sunflower Wreath
Materials
- 1 Small UITC board
- 1 roll poly burlap mesh cut into 32 10”x10” pieces
- 32 6” zip ties
- 7 7” flower center
- 10" pipe cleaners
- floral pins
- hot glue
Instructions
Prepare Your UITC Board
- Start with your Small UITC Board. You’ll notice rows of holes labeled 1 through 4. We’ll be using rows 2 and 3 for this project.
- On Row 2, attach zip ties into the holes by threading them through the lone hole and then back out through the next closest hole.
- Close the zip ties until you hear a click, but don’t tighten them all the way just yet. You should have 16 zip ties on Row 2.
- On Row 3, repeat the process, adding 16 more zip ties for a total of 32 zip ties.
Cut Your Poly Burlap
- You’ll need to cut your poly burlap into 10-inch pieces. If you’re using poly burlap, a wood burner will help prevent fraying. However, if you’re using other types of mesh, you can use a rotary cutter instead.
Fold the Petals
- Each petal starts as a 10-inch square of poly burlap. Follow these steps to create your sunflower petals:
- Lay the burlap curl side up in a diamond shape.
- Fold it into a triangle by bringing the top corner to the bottom corner.
- Fold it again into a smaller triangle.
- Pinch the sides and pull them down to form a petal shape.
- Pinch the center of the petal and secure it with a zip tie on your UITC board.
- Repeat this process for all 32 petals, attaching them to the board as you go. Remember, don’t worry if it looks a little sparse at first—once all the petals are in place, your wreath will look full and beautiful!
Secure the Petals with an Anchor Zip Tie
- For extra security, add an additional zip tie around the base of each petal. This will help anchor the petal to the board, ensuring it stays in place.
Attach the Flower Center
- Now it’s time to attach the 7-inch flower center. Here’s how:
- Cut your floral pins to about 3/4 of an inch to ensure they don’t puncture through the front of the flower center.
- Apply super glue to the ends of the floral pins and secure your pipe cleaners to the back of the flower center.
- Once the glue has dried, position your flower center on the wreath.
- Thread the pipe cleaners through the holes in the UITC board, securing the center to the board by tightening the pipe cleaners.
- Add some hot glue around the edges of the center for extra security.
Create a Hanging Loop
- To hang your wreath, take a 10-inch pipe cleaner and thread it through one of the holes on the outer edge of the board. Tie it in a knot and twist the excess around to create a clean loop for hanging.
Final Touches
- After you’ve attached the center and all the petals, fluff out the petals to make sure they’re evenly distributed and looking full. You can also trim any excess zip ties and pipe cleaners for a neat finish.
