If fall crafting is your jam (or maybe your pumpkin pie?), this DIY door hanger update is the perfect weekend project. It’s simple, festive, and full of cozy charm. Whether you’re decorating your kitchen, entryway, or booth for a fall market, this project adds a sweet seasonal touch that’s sure to make people smile.

How to Update a Fall Door Hanger
Using a printed pumpkin pie sign, several layered ribbons, and a little hot glue and twine magic, you’ll create a farmhouse-style door hanger that celebrates everyone’s favorite fall dessert.
✂️ Tools Needed
- ¼ Staples
- Stapler
- Hot Glue
- Scissors
🍂 Supplies You’ll Need
- Pumpkin Sign – DecoExchange (sku# AP7222) *Sold out, but here are some other pumpkin sign options.
- 1.5” Open Weave Ribbon – DecoExchange (sku# QXB330109-15C)
- 2.5” Tan Plain Ribbon – Sam’s Club
- 2.5” Fall Leaf Ribbon – Hobby Lobby (sku# 5310859)
- 1.5” Pumpkin Pie Ribbon – DecoExchange (sku# R9409-04)
- 1.5” Rush Orange Ribbon – DecoExchange (sku# X501409-23)
- Pipe Cleaners
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Sign
Lay your pumpkin pie sign flat on your table. Use pipe cleaners or staples to attach ribbon ties to each side of the sign. This is where you’ll anchor your bows.
Step 2: Build Your Bow Base
Start with your 2.5” tan plain ribbon and make 2 loops on each side (around 6” each).
Add the fall leaf ribbon next using the same loop style. Alternate colors as you go to add visual dimension.
Step 3: Add the Fun
Layer in the pumpkin pie ribbon for that fun pop of print. Finish with the 1.5” open weave ribbon and rush orange ribbon to add texture and color.
Tip: Keep your tails a little longer than usual—around 8–10”—for a droopy, relaxed look.
Step 4: Secure & Fluff
Once all your layers are in place, secure the bow using a pipe cleaner or zip tie. Fluff the loops and trim the tails at an angle.
Step 5: Attach the Bows
Use hot glue or staple the bows directly onto each corner of the sign. Add extra twine or greenery if you’d like more flair!
Use Up Leftover Fall Supplies 🎃
One of the best things about this project? It’s perfect for using up those small ribbon rolls and leftover fall picks you’ve been holding onto. Because the base is a flat sign (instead of a full wreath), you don’t need a ton of product to make it look full. If you’ve got extra pipe cleaners, partial rolls of ribbon, or small fall accents from past projects—this is the time to bring them out and let them shine.
Tip: Mix in 2–3 types of ribbon for texture, even if you only have short pieces. Cut them into 12” strips and use them in stacked bows or tails!
