Looking to make a full, fluffy wreath without cutting a ton of mesh? The poof method for mesh is one of the easiest ways to build volume while keeping your project quick and beginner-friendly. Today, I’m walking you through how to use the poof method to create a beautiful wreath using mesh, an evergreen base, and a few extra touches.
This technique is perfect for holiday wreaths, spring florals, or any season you want a big, bold look!

Supplies You’ll Need:
- 24” Evergreen Base (SKU#482356) – Hobby Lobby
- 10” Cream and Burlap Thick Stripe Mesh (SKU#RE8903XN) – DecoExchange
- 10.5” Cream and Burlap Thin Stripe Mesh (SKU#RY830254) – DecoExchange
- 21” Moss Green Mesh (SKU#RE100243) – DecoExchange
Tip: The poof method works best with 21” mesh, but you can layer in smaller widths for extra texture!
How to Use the Poof Method for Mesh
Step 1: Prep Your Wreath Base
Fluff out your evergreen wreath base to spread the branches evenly. This gives your mesh more spots to anchor and adds dimension.
Step 2: Attach Your Mesh
Take the end of your 21” moss green mesh and secure it to a tie or branch on the outer ring of your wreath base.
Step 3: Create Poofs
Gather about 10–12 inches of mesh, pinch it in the center, and secure it at the next tie. This “poof” creates a soft bubble of mesh between each tie.
Step 4: Continue Around the Base
Keep repeating the poof process all the way around the outer ring, securing each section as you go. Once you finish the outer ring, move to the inner ring and repeat.
Step 5: Add Extra Mesh
Layer in your 10” cream and burlap thick stripe mesh using ruffle or curl techniques in between the poofs for extra depth.
Step 6: Fill in Gaps
Use the 10.5” cream and burlap thin stripe mesh as small accents anywhere that needs more coverage or texture.
Step 7: Fluff and Finish
Once everything is attached, fluff your mesh and adjust the shape for an even, full look. Add ribbon tails, bows, or floral picks if you want to embellish it further!
