The Importance of Ribbon in Spring Designs
When it comes to spring crafting, ribbon for spring plays a critical role. The ribbon isn’t just a decorative accent—it’s the focal point of your design. A well-chosen spring ribbon can:
- Tie Your Color Palette Together: It creates a unified look, connecting the elements of your design.
- Add Texture and Interest: Ribbons with unique patterns, such as scalloped edges or faux burlap textures, bring depth to your projects.
- Highlight Seasonal Charm: Soft pastels, vibrant wildflower hues, and natural neutrals evoke the freshness of spring.
For me, the ribbon is the hero. Whether I’m working on a wreath or a bow, I always start by choosing the perfect spring ribbon that inspires the rest of my design.
Starting with a Standout Ribbon
Ribbons Used:
- 1.5” magnolia wired ribbon
- 1.5” green open weave jute wired ribbon
- 1.5” brown open weave jute wired ribbon
- 2.5” green and tan scallop edge wired ribbon
- 2.5” magnolia wired ribbon

Magnolia Ribbon – The Inspiration
One of my favorite ribbons for spring is the Magnolia ribbon. This Deluxe, Luxe ribbon is available with two background options: Taupe and Moss Green. The Magnolia ribbon is absolutely gorgeous—with detailed magnolia prints complemented by browns, tans, and creams that evoke the natural beauty of spring.
I start by zooming in on the Magnolia ribbon to really appreciate its intricate design. The colors in this ribbon serve as my inspiration for the entire project. From the rich browns that mimic tree bark to the soft creams and tans, every shade plays a part in setting the tone.
Tip: Use the one-and-a-half inch version of the Magnolia ribbon when creating bows. The thinner version helps in spreading out your design, ensuring the ribbon becomes the centerpiece of your creation.
Breaking It Up with Complementary Ribbons
Once I’ve chosen my Magnolia ribbon, I like to mix it up with a few complementary options. Here’s what I do:
- Fancy Panty Ribbon:
- I call it that because of its scalloped edge design. It comes in a coordinating color that matches the green in the Magnolia ribbon’s leaves, while also complementing the brown hues of the Magnolia branch. This ribbon adds a delightful textural contrast.
- Neutral Palette Ribbons:
- I bring in additional ribbons that follow an everyday neutral color palette. Think greens, creams, taupes, and even an open weave burlap ribbon. These ribbons add texture and create a cohesive background for your design.
- Pro Tip: For designs like wreaths or bows, using a burlap ribbon with a white edge can offer a subtle variation while maintaining harmony with the Magnolia ribbon.
The idea is to let the Magnolia ribbon guide your color choices. The overall design becomes a beautiful symphony of colors—each element chosen to enhance the natural spring vibe.

Creating a Wildflower-Inspired Look
Living in Texas, I draw a lot of inspiration from our Bluebonnet fields and wildflower landscapes. For a wildflower-inspired design:

Ribbons Used:
- 1.5” blue denim wired ribbon
- 1.5” yellow scallop edge wired ribbon
- 7/8” wildflower wired ribbon
- 2.5” wildflower wired ribbon
- 4” tan and red plaid wired ribbon
Wildflower Deluxe Ribbon:
This ribbon bursts with reds, yellows, and blues. It’s perfect for those looking to add a touch of country charm to their spring projects.
I use two different sizes of this wildflower ribbon to create layers, which adds dimension and a playful twist to the design.
To complement the wildflower theme, I mix in a four-inch burlap ribbon in brown and red. This pairing creates an inviting, country-inspired look that’s perfect for farmhouse decor or casual spring arrangements.
By combining the wildflower ribbon with complementary colors like denim blue and yellow scalloped edge ribbon, you can create a vibrant design that reflects the energy of spring in Texas.
Embracing Blues and Neutrals
Spring isn’t just about florals—there’s a cool, refreshing side to the season, too. For that reason, I also love working with blue and white spring ribbons:

Ribbons Used:
- 5/8” macrame
- 5/8” baby blue stripe
- 1.5” navy Swiss dot scallop
- 1.5” denim
- 2.5” burlap floral
- 2.5” denim
Blue and White Patterned Faux Burlap Ribbon:
This ribbon features a woven design with subtle screen printing that gives it a natural, rustic appeal. It pairs beautifully with the other ribbons in the design.
Mixing Different Shades of Blue:
I incorporate various shades, from dark denim blue to light denim blue, to create contrast and depth. Adding thinner ribbons, such as a white crochet macrame ribbon or a baby blue and white cabana stripe, brings additional texture and dimension.
The key here is balance. Using different shades of blue, along with complementary neutral hues, creates a design that’s both refreshing and cohesive—a perfect representation of ribbon for spring.
Feminine Touch with Pinks and Yellows
Ribbons Used:
- 5/8” macrame
- 1/2” pink scallop edge
- 1.5” yellow scallop edge
- 1/2” pink tweed
- 1/2” pink/yellow rose
For a more delicate, feminine look, I turn to a combination of pinks and yellows:
- Dainty Rose Ribbon:
- This ribbon, featuring pink and yellow roses, is both neutral and elegant. It adds a soft, floral element to the design.
- Pink Tweed Ribbon:
- Adding a touch of pink tweed gives the design an unexpected feminine flair. It pairs beautifully with browns, pinks, and yellows.
- Scalloped Edge Ribbon in Yellow and Pink:
- This ribbon further enhances the dainty feel of the design. It’s perfect for creating a subtle yet eye-catching accent.
- Lace-Inspired White Ribbon:
- Finally, a white ribbon that resembles lace adds the finishing touch. This helps to brighten the design and gives it a refined, delicate look that’s ideal for spring and summer.
These combinations are particularly effective for Easter Bunny season or any spring event where a gentle, feminine aesthetic is desired.
Experiment and Enjoy!
At the heart of every design is the ribbon. Whether you’re creating a wreath, a bow, or any other decorative piece, the right spring ribbon sets the stage for a stunning finished product. I love how these four color combinations—Magnolia, wildflower, blue, and pinks with yellows—each bring their unique charm to the table.
Remember, the beauty of crafting is that there are no strict rules. Feel free to experiment with different ribbon sizes, textures, and color combinations. Each variation can lead to a unique and beautiful design that reflects your personal style and creativity.
