Hey, y’all! It’s Coach Melissa from the creative coaching group at The Makers University, and today we’re diving into one of my favorite topics: organizing and storing your seasonal wreath supplies. If your craft room or storage area has gotten a bit chaotic (and who hasn’t been there?), I have some super practical tips to help you get everything in order.

1. Organizing Signs with Cube Storage

Signs can quickly get out of control if stacked on top of each other, making it tough to find exactly what you need. My solution? Cube storage units! I use IKEA cubes, which allow me to store signs upright. This way, I can easily flip through, see what I have, and grab what I need without any fuss.

Here’s how I organize them by season:

  • Christmas in one section.
  • Fall and Halloween grouped together.
  • Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter tucked neatly nearby.
  • Everyday and summer signs conveniently in their own area.

2. Clear Totes for Smaller Supplies

I’m a big believer in the phrase, “out of sight, out of mind.” If I can’t see it, I forget about it. So for smaller items like deco tubing and larger wreath attachments, clear plastic totes are a lifesaver. They allow me to quickly spot exactly what I need. Plus, keeping similar colors or themes together in clear totes (e.g., black and red Christmas items) makes crafting so much easier.

3. Floral and Greenery Storage

Florals and greenery can be tricky. Here’s a genius hack: I use plastic shelves with small holes (you can find these at Menards, Walmart, or Sam’s Club) to keep them upright. Stems fit perfectly through these holes, making it easy to see and grab what I need.

I organize them by color:

  • Gold, orange, yellow
  • Purples, pinks, blues
  • All greenery and fall colors
  • Patriotic and Christmas items in separate areas

4. Mesh Storage in Cubes and Boxes

Mesh rolls, especially the 21-inch variety, fit nicely into cube storage. For smaller rolls, I simply use recycled shipping boxes with the tops cut off. It’s economical, eco-friendly, and does the job perfectly. I keep similar colors together, such as pinks, greens, and naturals, for easy access.

5. Ribbon Organization Using Closet Shelves

For 10-yard ribbon rolls, I discovered that closet shelves turned upside down and angled work wonders. This setup:

  • Maximizes visual access
  • Prevents ribbon from creasing (unlike placing them directly on wire shelves)
  • Allows me to organize ribbons by color, theme, and size (e.g., all Christmas ribbons, patriotic reds and blues, or versatile black and white ribbons together).

For 50-yard rolls, sturdy plastic shelves are the best choice. I stack these horizontally, making it simple to see and grab the rolls I need for classes and multiples.

6. Storing Ornaments and Miscellaneous Items

Ornaments, pumpkins, and similar items can take up lots of space. I store these in clear totes, grouped by color or theme. For example:

  • Black and white ornaments together
  • Natural and rustic items in one bin
  • Red and white or blue items in separate clear totes

Keeping similar items together not only makes it easy to find but also sparks inspiration when I see them grouped by color and style.

7. Designating Areas for Special Ribbons

For those more expensive designer ribbons, I set up a special area. Keeping these separate helps ensure I use them intentionally, for projects that require that extra touch. It prevents accidental use on everyday projects and keeps my investment organized and easy to access.

Craft Room Organization

I’m fortunate to have a spacious 1,900-square-foot basement for my crafting supplies, but these principles apply to any size craft space. Remember:

  • Visibility is key – clear containers help you remember and use what you have.
  • Organize by theme or color to streamline your workflow.
  • Recycle when possible – repurposed shipping boxes make excellent free storage.

By keeping your wreath supplies well-organized and easily accessible, you’ll save time, reduce stress, and keep your creative juices flowing. Happy organizing, y’all!
