It’s beginner-friendly, quick to make, and perfect for showing your team spirit.

Two handmade football-themed door hangers: one round red plaid “Welcome” sign with grill flames and a bow, and one pumpkin spice cup design with football bows.

Supplies You’ll Need

All door hangers used are solely from and made by DecoExchange.

Door Hangers

Ribbons

  • 2.5″ Gingham Ribbon
  • 2.5″ Football Ribbon
  • 2.5″ Polka Dot Black and White Ribbon
  • 1.5″ Yellow and White Polka Dot Ribbon
  • 1.5″ Ric Rac Red and Gold Ribbon

Greenery

  • Pepper Bushes from Hobby Lobby

Other Tools

  • Scissors
  • Pipe Cleaners or Floral Wire
  • Stapler or Hot Glue (for securing ribbons/greenery)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Start with the Door Hanger Base

Place your football door hanger on your workspace. Make sure it’s clean and ready for decorations.

2. Layer Your Greenery

Take your pepper bushes from Hobby Lobby and fluff them out to give them a fuller shape.

Secure them in place on your door hanger base, either with hot glue or staples, creating a foundation for your bow.

3. Create the Bow

Tammy’s bow features a mix of ribbons for a fun, layered look:

  • Start with the 2.5″ ribbons for your base loops (gingham, football print, and polka dot).
  • Add pops of the 1.5″ ribbons (yellow polka dot and red/gold ric rac) for contrast and texture.
  • Use 2–3 loops per ribbon size, stacking them to create fullness.

Tie the bow together with a pipe cleaner or floral wire.

4. Attach the Bow to the Door Hanger

Position your bow just above or to the side of the football design. This placement helps balance the greenery and makes the design pop. Secure tightly so it stays in place outdoors.

5. Fluff and Adjust

Once your bow is attached, adjust the loops and tails so the ribbons fan out nicely. Trim ribbon ends at an angle or dovetail them for a polished look.

Tips from Tammy

  • Use wired ribbon for easier shaping and longer-lasting bows.
  • Mix patterns (like footballs and polka dots) to make the design more eye-catching.
  • Keep extra pepper bushes on hand—they add fullness without overpowering the design.
