Looking for a way to level up your seasonal arrangements, centerpieces, or craft show displays? Jordan is showing us how to make decorative risers using foam cake dummies, wood discs, fabric, and ribbon. These risers aren’t just for Halloween, they work for any holiday or theme, and the possibilities are endless!
Whether you want to add height to a table display, create a base for an arrangement, or use them as a platform for wreath attachments, these risers are a quick, affordable, and customizable project you can make in under an hour.

Supplies You’ll Need
For the 10” Riser
- 1 – 10” foam cake dummy (Amazon)
- 2 – 10” wood discs (Hobby Lobby)
- Cotton fabric of your choice
- 1 – 1.5” check ribbon (DecoExchange LX322459)
- 1 – 1.5” Trick or Pleats ribbon (DecoExchange RK730-52)
For the 8” Riser
- 1 – 8” x 4” foam cake dummy (Amazon)
- 2 – 8” wood discs (Dollar General)
- Cotton fabric of your choice
- 1 – 1.5” check ribbon (DecoExchange LX322459)
- 1 – 1.5” Trick or Pleats ribbon (DecoExchange RK730-52)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Foam Base
Center your foam cake dummy between the two wood discs. This gives the riser stability and a professional finish on top and bottom.
Step 2: Wrap with Fabric
Lay your cotton fabric flat and place the foam/wood stack in the center. Pull the fabric up and around, securing it neatly with hot glue or pins on the underside. Make sure the fabric is smooth and tight for a clean look.
Step 3: Add Ribbon Trim
Measure enough ribbon to wrap around the edge of the riser. Use the check ribbon first, then layer the Trick or Pleats ribbon on top for extra detail. Attach with hot glue.
Step 4: Customize for the Season
While Jordan’s example uses Halloween colors, you can switch out fabrics and ribbons to fit any holiday or home decor style. Think buffalo plaid for Christmas, florals for spring, or lemons for summer!
Jordan’s Design Tips
- Double Layer the Ribbon for more impact.
- Vary Heights by making both the 8” and 10” versions for your display.
- Think Beyond Holidays — use risers for year-round arrangements or craft show product displays.
