Organizing Your Workspace Tips and Tricks

Your craft room is a room where you get to go and just be creative. However, at times it may seem overwhelming if it is not properly organized. When it isn’t organized you can not easily find all those supplies and tools you need. That is why I am sharing with you my top tips and tricks on how to organize your workspace and allow you to be as creative and successful as you can while crafting.

1.  Determine what you need in your craft room

So you have your own workspace. Have you thought about what it should contain? It’s best to organize your supplies by category, so think about what items need to be in the room. For instance, are there any certain tools that are used? Keep them out on a desk or work surface where you can get at them easily. For us wreath makers I would say we always need a pair of wire cutters, hot glue gun, zip ties, and scissors available at all times.

2.  Decide how to organize your Wreath Supplies

You probably have items that are used for various holidays; organize them by category. For example, all signs and picks should be together. Ribbons that are nonseasonal should be kept with like colors and patterns.

Keep all of your supplies in bins on shelving units so that it’s easy for you to see what you have and organize it with labels. That way you can easily grab the supplies as needed.

3.  Put your tools away when you finish using them

This is hard for me but it is a lifesaver. When you finish with a tool put it back where it belongs. This not only helps keep your workspace organized it also helps you find it when you need it. Again, easier said than done but it is something I will strive to do better at.

4.  Keep like items together when storing them

Organized and labeled bins for work space

I like to store all my florals together, greenery and picks and stems. They each have a bin or container they are kept in. Easily accessible and correctly labeled. When you keep like items together you can easily know where to find exactly what you are looking for when you start making a wreath.

You will also want shelving to help store your bins that way they are on different levels. On the top of the shelving units, you can store your wreath forms.

5.  Keep your work area clear of clutter

If you organize everything well, then this should be unnecessary, but it’s a good idea to clear an area of your workspace before you organize. Keeping the surrounding areas clean and clutter-free will make it easier to organize each item, and you’ll be able to find what you need more easily.

I also suggest having a huge trashcan close to your work area. This helps get rid of the trash as you go instead of it piling up.

6.  Label all of your storage containers to better organize your workspace

You’re already organized and know where everything goes, but if you want to really remember where everything is located you must label those storage containers. You don’t need fancy labels. I like using index cards and sharpies.

7.  Keep your work space clean and your supplies organized

Now that you are all organized and ready to start crafting be sure you keep your items organized and free of clutter. Doing this will ensure that everything is easy to find when you want it and that you don’t end up with too much clutter.
