Supplies for Merry Christmas Deco Mesh Wreath

How to Make a Merry Christmas Wreath with Deco Mesh

Let’s begin by prepping our wooden Christmas sign for our adorable wreath. Don’t you worry, we will get to the wreath making. We just need to get everything in order before we get to the extra fun part of making a Merry Christmas Wreath that will be the envy of all your neighbors this holiday season.

Step #1: Grab 2 mounting circles and some super glue. Place a little dab at the bottom and top, because a little goes a long way. Adhere your mounting circles to the super glue. While the super glue dries, add a thin layer of hot glue around your metal allowing the super glue to cure. Set aside.

Step #2: Grab your deco mesh and lay flat on your measuring mat. Cut 8 pieces of your mesh measuring 18”-20” in length. Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect. Set aside in one pile.

Step #3 Next cut 20 pieces of deco mesh, measuring 10” each. This should finish out your whole roll. Set Aside.

Step #4: Grab your work wreath form, positioning all of your tines so they are pointing out away from the center of the frame.

Step #5: We will be adding 2 10” curls all around the bottom of your frame. We will curl them up, make them in a X cross shape, pinching in the middle and directly adding them into an outside twist tine. Repeat until the outer frame is done. Fluff and beautify.

Step #6: Next, we will grab a 20” mesh section, curling both sides, and then walking hands together to create a quick ruffle. You decide if you want to add your mesh with the ruffle up or down in your wreath form.I chose up for this wreath. Add to the inner section of your work form, twisting tines to secure in place. Repeat so your frame is nice and full.

Step #7: Grab your Merry Christmas sign, as the glue should be nice and dry now. I am adding my sign on the lower right section of my wreath. It is good to begin with a plan to help your vision come to life. With 2 10” pipe cleaners, slide 1 through each side of your mounting squares, twisting nice and tight on each side.

Step #8: Work your pipe cleaners down through the frame in the position you like. One on top and the other on the bottom of your frame. Be sure to tie them secure to your frame so they will stay in place. Do not smash your mesh.

Step #9: Now for the bow! Grab your EZ Bow Maker and your 4” Christmas ribbon.  Measure out about 12” and pinch and twist before sliding into your EZ Bow Maker. We’re going to measure our loop out to 6 ½ to 7 inches. Bringing it back through, twist it. Now measure again, 6 ½ to 7 inches on your loop on the other side. Pulling ribbon back through, you will measure out your second tail pointing out toward the top of your bow, about 8”. Trim ribbon to make the next layer.

Step #10: For the next layer of ribbon, we’re going to have our tail pointing out the first time. Give it a twist. Tail pointing up. So if our tail’s pointing up, we want our first loop going up. We’re not going to measure anymore. We’re just going to make each one a little bit smaller going in. 2nd loop in this layer will match the length of that loop but instead point downward on your bow. Our loops will be about 6” for those of you who must have measurements. Cut ribbon, having your tail pointing downward –  about 8”, opposite in position from your loop.

Step #11: Third layer of ribbons, repeating steps to have 2 long tails and 2 matching loops. Pay attention to your loop and tail placement, as they should accent the first 2 layers of ribbon in your bow. That just means, make sure it is eye-appealing.

Step #12: To create a center loop, you’ll create a single loop with 2 tails.

Step #13: To finish the bow, get 1 pipe cleaner, give it a good pinch in the center to fold in half. Wrap it around all the layers of ribbon with the center of the pipe cleaner at the top. Hold the layers tight and holding each side of the pipe cleaner as close to the bow, twist nice and tight, and you’ll see the loops and tail start to form the bow.

Step #14: Add to your wreath with pipe cleaner by sliding through frame up on the top left section of your wreath. Twist nice and tight to secure your bow. Fluff and fancy your loops, reposition your tails if needed, remembering not to smash your beautiful mesh underneath.

Step #15. Let’s create multiple ribbon tails with our ribbon tail board, measuring about 13” in length, making 10 total cuts. Dovetails the ends and pinch in the center. Attach on the outer edge of work form all around the wreath.

Step #16: Create a fake loop with a single tail by cutting some ribbon from the spool. Fold one end over to form a loop, leaving a tail on the other side. Throw it under your large bow by securing with a twist tine, keeping your loop and tail going the same directions. Remember to dovetail that end. This makes your bow look bigger. Repeat on the opposite side of the bow one more time.

Step #17: Grab your red and white flower sprays and pull them apart, giving you separate bundles to work with. Fluff your flowers out to make them look fabulous. Slide your stems, dipped in hot glue, accenting out away from the right side of your bow above the sign. Hold in place. You should have one red and one white in your bundles on top and on the side of your wreath.

Step #18: This time, insert your red and white flower bundles on the left of your bow, heading out and downward on the wreath. We are creating a waterfall of flowers, making sure our stems are bent more down, than out.

Step #19: Take a look at your wreath, making any adjustments as needed. You do not want your sign to be covered and your loops to look wonderful.
