This DIY patriotic red, white, and blue tree has a Christmas tree base but ends up looking like it was made for the 4th of July. Learn how to create this easy patriotic Christmas tree yourself.

Hey, y’all! When the temperature rises outside, I’m ready to break out all the red, white, and blue I can get my hands on! You may have seen the Patriotic Truck Wreath I made recently. That’s just one of many patriotic projects I’ve got going on.

Today, we’re all about patriotic Christmas trees instead of wreaths! Did you just do a double take? Christmas trees? Y’all, Christmas trees can be enjoyed ALL year long.

This tree is super easy to decorate. If you follow along with the video tutorial, it’ll only take you a few minutes to create some patriotic decor with a fun flair.

Supplies Needed For Patriotic Tree

Red artificial Christmas tree
Ornament garland (with white balls)
(3) 4″ wired ribbon
(1) 2.5″ wired ribbon
(2) 1.5 wired ribbon
Greenery sprays
Red, white, and blue fireworks sprays
Red, white, and blue star pick sprays
Patriotic colored popsicle pick sprays
Individual blue and white flower picks
Red, white, and blue sparkler pick sprays
Red, white, and blue curly-cue pick sprays
Loose ball ornaments (in red, white, and blue)
Large oversized ornaments in a variety of colors
Pipe cleaners

Red, White, And Blue Christmas Tree Instructions

In case you missed a step in the video (or want to go at your own pace) here are the instructions. Feel free to grab the convenient printable instruction card down below!

Step 1

Take your red artificial Christmas tree and add the first strand of white ornament garland in a large shallow zig zag pattern from the top of the tree to the bottom.

You’re going to use the tinsel “pine” on the tree to hold your garland in place.

Step 2

Make a quick bow by hand. Take your 2.5-inch ribbon and create a one 8 inch loop on each side with 30” tails. Take a 1.5-inch ribbon and do the same thing. Then, take your 4-inch ribbon and repeat the same process, all while holding your ribbon in one hand.

Attach your bow to the top of your tree, using a tree branch to secure the bow. Tie some tails of the bow onto branches of the tree and dovetail the ends.

Step 3

Attach some ribbon tails from all your ribbons around the tree, using the tree branches to secure the tails into place in a large pouf style.

Step 4

With your 1.5-inch ribbon, make a simple bow by hand with one 6” loop and one shorter (12”) tail, and one longer (18”) tails. Attach it to the tree using the tree branches.

Leave the shorter tail hanging loose, but take the long tail and make a pouf, then attach it to the tree. Repeat this same process 6 more times, adding them all over your tree.

Dovetail the loose ribbon tail ends.

Step 5

Grab your greenery sprays! Open them up and fluff them out to give them some dimension. Then, insert them into your tree, starting at the top and working your way around the tree as you move down.

Step 6

Take your red, white, and blue fireworks sprays and open them up then insert them into your tree, working your way all around the tree.

Step 7

Grab your blue ball ornaments and just tuck them into branches all around your tree. Repeat the same process for your remaining ball ornaments, spreading out the various colors around the tree.

Step 8

Take your large oversized ornaments and thread a pipe cleaner through the top loop then use it to attach your ornament to one of the tree branches. Repeat this process for your remaining large ornaments.

Step 9

Take your red, white, and blue star pick sprays, spread out the picks and insert them into your tree, working your way around the tree in a triangular pattern from top to bottom.

Repeat the same process with the red, white, and blue popsicle sprays.

Step 10

Take a 4” ribbon and make a 6” loop with one shorter (12”) tail and one longer (18”) tail. Secure the loop into place with a tree branch and then let the shorter tail hang loose and style the long tail as a pouf. Use a tree branch to secure it in place. Dovetail the loose ribbon tails!

Step 11

Take the individual blue and white flower picks and open them up like opening the petals of a flower. Insert the picks into the tree, working your way around the tree. Repeat a similar process with the red, white, and blue sparkler pick sprays and the curly-cue pick sprays.

That’s it, y’all! This patriotic Christmas tree is perfect for the person who wants to fill their home with colorful red, white, and blue all summer long.
