Creating Your Own Trick or Treat Wreath for Halloween

Now it’s time for the fun part, getting started on making the wreath. This is a quick and easy process that will have you making multiple wreaths for your neighbors!

Step #1: Take your wire base wreath and your 3 patterns of 10″ deco mesh. Use your mesh cutter and cut out four even sections of each ribbon, totaling 16 pieces.

Step #2: Tie the deco mesh around the metal wreath to make bows. Do this until all pieces of the ribbon are used and the wire wreath is covered fully.

Step #3: Take your wooden sign and use your staple gun to attach the pipe cleaners and add a drop of hot glue to seal them fully. Now place it to the side until we need it.

Step #4: Make big bow using the 9 ribbon chosen.

  • We’re going to take our first 4″ ribbon. We’re going to measure out an eight inch tail pointing down. Pinch and twist it in the center. Slide it in to the EZ Bow Maker. We want our pretty side up, ugly side down. We’re going to measure our loop out to seven inches. Bringing it back through, twist it. We want a tail and a loop facing the same direction. That way we have our tail and our loop both pointing towards us. So we’re just making an X every time.
  • For the next 1.5″ ribbon, we’re going to have our tail pointing out the first time. Give it a twist. Tail pointing up. So if our tail’s pointing up, we want our first loop going up. We’re not going to measure anymore. We’re just going to make each one a little bit smaller going in.
  • Now our third 2.5″ ribbon is next. Since our loop was down on the last one, now our first tail is going to be down.
  • Alternate the pattern and with the 1.5″ ribbon, we’ll start with the tail going up, pinch, twist, smaller loop on each side, and tail facing the bottom. Repeat, alternating the pattern with the 2.5″ ribbon next, then the 1.5″ ribbon, followed by another layer of 2.5″ ribbon, and ending with a 1.5″ ribbon.
  • For the last 1.5″ ribbon, you’ll create a single loop with 2 tails for the center loop.
  • Get 2 pipe cleaners and twist it together to make a longer pipe cleaner then fold in half. Wrap it around all the layers of ribbon with the center of the pipe cleaner at the top. Hold the layers tight and holding each side of the pipe cleaner as close to the bow, twist nice and tight, and you’ll see the loops and tail start to form the bow.

Step #5: Take the sign/attachment, and thread the pipe cleaners through the mesh and tie the sign to the wreath frame. Take the big bow, and attach to the top left of the sign, arranging it so that it doesn’t block your beautiful sign.

Step #6: With your ribbon tail board, 4″ ribbon, 2.5″ ribbon, and 3- 1.5″ ribbon, we’ll make some ribbon tails. Measuring out 14″ wrap the ribbons around the ribbon tail board, and count 8 strips of each ribbon. Remove the ribbons from the board and cut on each end, then dove tail the ends of the ribbon tails.

Step #7: There will be 2 sets of ribbon tails. The first set layer the 1.5″ and 4″ ribbon. Fold the set in half and scrunch down the center and pinch to form a V shape and add it to each tie starting at the bottom outside row of the wreath frame. Once the ribbon tails are added, spread it out. Continue this throughout the bottom row ties are all filled.

Step #8: The second set will be a the 2- 1.5″ ribbon on top and the 2.5″ ribbon on the bottom. Fold the set in half and scrunch down the center and pinch to form a V shape and add it to each remaining tie on the wreath frame.

Step #9: Be sure to fluff everything out with the bow and ribbon tails!
