As a budding Craftpreneur, you may find that creating video tutorials helps grow your audience and expand your business. But what tools do you need to make great tutorials? Here are Damon’s top video tutorial creation tools to help you grow your business.

Hey, y’all! At one point or another, you’ve probably seen one of our Facebook LIVES or watched a video tutorial we shared on the internet.

We started by making Facebook LIVES and quickly realized how many people found them helpful. The videos were pretty basic at first, but we did a lot of experimenting and adjusting our production practices to create better quality videos.

As we expanded our business to include business coaching, naturally we incorporated video tutorials there too! Over time, we have continued to refine and improve them through trial and error.

Because video tutorials are so instrumental for our business, it probably comes as no surprise (it sure didn’t to us!) that we constantly receive tons of questions asking about what video tutorial creation tools we use.

Well, here we are with a post dedicated specifically to the tools we use for video tutorial creation.

Our Top Video Tutorial Creation Tools

I know a lot of people immediately feel confused and overwhelmed at the thought of creating video tutorials. What tools do you need? Are they expensive? What’s useful and what’s overkill?

We have done a lot of experimenting in this area so that you don’t have to! And we’ve definitely discovered that some things are helpful while others just…aren’t.

While you’ll see people recommend a huge list of items, we’ve found you just don’t need everything that’s out on the market. So we’ve narrowed our list of video tutorial creation tools down to the essentials to help you get started right away without any unnecessary confusion!

Here’s what you’ll need to start making amazing video tutorials that your customers will watch again and again.

Lighting Tools For Video Tutorials

Light Kits – If you’re in the business of selling wreaths online you need terrific pictures to sell your products! The same is true with videos. Without good lighting, your tutorials will look dark and be hard to watch.

Make sure you have good lighting to get the best picture possible! A light kit like this one includes reflectors to help soften the lighting while also brightening the overall video for the best picture.

The Ring Light – This is a must-have light if you’re going to do Facebook live! It brightens the space in a soft, non-glaring way that looks natural for perfect lighting. (It’s a secret weapon!)

Light Ring For Phone – This little ring really makes a difference when you take pictures or quick lives! It’s perfect for snapping onto your phone quickly and easily so you can just do a quick photo or video without taking the time to set up a larger lighting kit.

It can work in a pinch if you’re missing a light kit! This little light will take years off of your face & make your products look 110% better. It’s worth the cost even if you already have a lighting kit because you can take this “on the go” with you.

Apps And Software For Image & Video Tutorial Editing

PicTapGo – This is a super simple app that you can use to adjust lighting and add filters to make your images look incredible!

Canva – We make everything from our video thumbnails to our blog post images in Canva. You’ll save so much time if you create templates for yourself.

Filmora – This is one of the most user-friendly video editors out there.

FAQs

Here are a few questions I see often from readers. If you have any questions, please check to see whether I’ve already answered them. If you don’t see your question, be sure to leave it in the comments so I can answer it for you!

How long should a tutorial video be?

We’ve had videos ranging from 30 seconds to 90 minutes, depending on what we’re demonstrating.

Your video should only be as long as you need it to be to show what you’re trying to show. People are busy and don’t want to watch unnecessary fluff.

One of the things that we’ve done over the last couple of years is taking our Facebook LIVES and editing out the interactive, fluffy parts to streamline the videos for people to watch.

And we’ve received a lot of positive feedback about that!

What is are the best features of the tutorial videos?

What we have found works well for us is to include a visual demonstration of the project along with a verbal description of what we’re doing. We’ve also had success answering questions from viewers as we go to help clarify things that maybe we didn’t initially make as clear as we could have.
